Name/Title

1610 - A TRIBUTE COIN FROM THE MOUTH OF THE FISH

Description

1610 - A TRIBUTE COIN FROM THE MOUTH OF THE FISH This is an original antique leaf on light, hand-made paper. There is a full-page engraving on the front and Italian text on the back. From an Italian counter- Reformation book by the Jesuit priest Bartolomeo Ricci (1512 – 1613). The format used the idea published just 17 years earlier in 1593, in which Biblical stories were illustrated and labeled with letters. The explanations of the letters appearing in the text, illustrated the meditations. This was the approach suggested by Loyola before he died. The image size is 4 inches by 6 ¼ inches.
