Iron paperweight. Far less decorative than others probably made at the same time. The growth of industry as a result of the industrial revolution created mass amounts of paperwork that needed to be held down. The first paperweights were simple glass or metal, but by the 1840s, an entire industry was born. Lost popularity around the 1860s.
