Description

Clear glass ink bottle with separate glass top. Glass top in top right drawer of secretary. Earlist inkwells date back to the early Egyptians. In Europe, scribes used prior to the sixteenth century. From the seventeenth century on, inkwells became more elaborate as the gentry began writing themselves. Fell from fashion after the invention of the typrewriter in 1870 and the fountain pen in 1884.
