American political leader of Irish ancestry. Born in Annapolis MD Sept 19, 1737. Founded his estate "Carrollton" on return from studies abroad. Served various committees leading to the historic events of 1776. 1776-1779 sat as a member of the Continental Congress. On August 2, 1776 signed the Declaration of Independence. He outlived all the other signers reaching the age of 95. His last public act was as one of the organizers of the Baltimore & Ohio RWY.
