Silk taffeta dress with long sleeves. The fabric background is gold with embroidered flowers and leaves in same color. Dress belonged to Mary Muir Shinn (10/22/1806 - 8/5/1881) - wife of Stephen Shinn. She was the daughter of John and Mary Lang Muir. John came to Alexandria in 1795. In 1927 the dress was given to Pauline Shinn Calbert, who is the great-granddaughter of Mary and Stephen Shinn. Donated by Mrs. Calbert.
