Napkin with lace corner detail and scalloped edges. Cloth napkins have been around since the Romans in varying forms and sizes. In the seventeenth century, the standard napkin was 35 inches wide by 45 inches long, reduced to 30 inches by 36 inches in the eighteenth century.
