Description

Spittoon or cuspidor. Blue-green glazed ceramic. No markings. May be a reproduction. Spittoons were popular from 1790-1920 (especially in the mid 1800s) when chewing tobacco and cigars were fashionable. Became a health concern in the late nineteenth century when scientists realized they could spread disease.
