Brown hand-tooled leather calling card case. Initials NCR: Nell Clarkson Reading - mother of donor. Circa 1890s. Calling cards were an indespensible accessory to fashionable, upper class life in Europe and the eastern US during the 19th and early 20th centuries, and were used by men and women. The Victorians developed a set of rules and proper etiquette regarding calling cards.
