Glass fly trap with hole at bottom and cork to seal the opening. These types of insect catchers were placed in kitchens and gardens to attract and trap insects and wasps. Any sort of sticky liquid (for example, sugar water or honey) would be poured into the belly of the trap while the cork was placed on the top. Insects would be attracted to the sugar water and get caught in the trap. Most traps were made with clear glass, although some were colored by adding manganese (for a purple color) or selenium (lighter purple) to molten glass.Dimensions
