Description

Black dress with yellow flowers. The bodice has cap sleeves with a yellow bow on one sleeve. The long flared skirt with side peplums is attached to the bodice at the natural waistline. Changing from the straight lines of the 1920’s, silhouettes of the 1930’s emphasized the curves of the figure with the bosom, waistline, and hips being clearly defined by the shape of the garment. Daytime dresses showed a fitted line, bias cut, and interesting sleeves. Donated by Virgina Laskey. Mrs. Laskey was a very prominent woman in Ruston, La. She was part of the Finance Committee for the Morgan Guarantee Trust Company in New York City where she was the only woman at that time in a position of authority within the company. She was honored in Anaheim, California for being one of 100 women within the Methodist church deemed to have outstanding contributions not only to the church, but also in laying the groupwork for women's rights. Mrs. Laskey attended Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans, La. She moved to Ruston in 1921 with her husband, Glenn E. Laskey.
