Description

Smoky blue and cream geometric print dress and jacket. Dress has raised waistline, Peter Pan collar, front bodice placket with piping trim and square buttons, and flared knee length skirt. Short boxy jacket with reverse print front placket and cuffs. The 1960’s were characterized by social disruption and unrest. During this time the concept of using dress to proclaim an ideology or membership of a group accelerated. This lead to subgroups such as the Mods and Hippies as well as fashion being influenced by political leaders, aerospace developments, and op art or pop art. The predominant silhouette was loose and unfitted and with short hemlines leading to the introduction of the miniskirt and micromini. However, more varied silhouettes were seen than decades before as life became more complex with greater diversity of influences and clothing being used as a means for demonstrating beliefs.
