Description

Cream crepe suit with a knee length skirt and collarless jacket with welt pockets. Three-piece ensemble also has a satin tunic. The ensemble has applique detail on the jacket front, tunic, and skirt waist. Donated by Jennifer Allen Riley. Mrs. Riley is a 1995 graduate and was the 1994 Louisiana Tech Homecoming Queen, representing the university during its centennial year (1884-1994). She currently serves as the Executive Director of Innovation Enterprise at Louisiana Tech. By the 1990’s a computer driven culture influenced both personal and professional lives. Fashion choices expanded and the fashion industry no longer introduced only one way of dressing but rather presented innumerable styles to express personal identity. It had become more and more difficult to identify a predominant silhouette and individuals turned to peers' groups rather than fashion influencers for acceptable styles. Diverse styles prevailed and mixed and match separates were most desired as they provided the greatest versatility. Silhouettes included slender pants to wide leg pants, sheer dresses and tops worn over other garments, and short to long jackets.
