1600s Spanish Florida Pewter Doublet Button St. Augustine (106)

Name/Title

1600s Spanish Florida Pewter Doublet Button St. Augustine (106)

Description

This example was recovered from near St. Augustine, Florida in the mid-1980s by a colleague. It dates to approximately 1500 to 1650. These pewter doublet buttons are the rarest types, as they were low cost, lower quality, and not favored because of these factors. This type of clothing button would have been worn by the first military expeditions sent to colonize Spanish Florida, and again these are rare to find in pewter.
