Description

Photograph of a crashed Curtis JN-4 "Jennie" Trainer C663, in which Vernon Castle was killed. Vernon used to have a fat monkey with him as a rule, but he left it behind that morning.

Context

Barron Field, also known as Taliaferro No. 3, was a World War I pilot-training field a half mile west of Everman in southeastern Tarrant County. Construction began in September 1917. The field was closed about 1921 and reverted to farm land. It was used to train Canadian pilots.
