Black cachet with "NAVY DAY" above a sailing galleon, “27 OCT in the crest of the waves, and "USS TEXAS" at the bottom of the cachet. Recognized “ LONG BEACH / CALIFORNIA” inserted between the killer bars. Posted aboard USS Texas on October 27, 1932 to celebrate Navy Day. Embossed with the official USS Texas seal. Signed in black on the top by “John C. Kane, Navy Mail Clerk” and on the bottom by “E.O. Tauer, U.S.N.,” the cachet designer. Additionally, this cover is mailed from and addressed to “Eric O. Tauer / 2154 Shelby St. / Indianapolis / Indiana,” attributed to Tauer’s personal collection.

America honored the United States Navy on Theodore Roosevelt’s birthday because he was considered the “Father of the Modern Steel Navy.” Observed annually from 1922 through 1949. Battleship Texas celebrated this Navy Day at Long Beach, California.
