Napoléon abdicated on June 22, 1815 after the defeat at Waterloo, left the Château de La Malmaison, arrived in Rochefort and planned to go to the United States, notably aided by General Lallemand. But the British government decided to deport him to the Island of Saint Helena. General Lallemand, and other Bonapartist officers expelled from the Army or volunteered, went into exile in the United States and created with other immigrants a French colony called "Le champ d'Asile" (for more information on the creation of this colony, read the book "Napoleon and the Americas - chapter 13 The field of asylum" published by Presses Universitaires du Midi). In this study Maurice Soulié questions the fact that General Lallemand had the idea of creating this colony to welcome Napoleon after having freed him and that Napoleon was informed of his plan.
