After commissioning in 1963, USCGC Point Baker spent her entire 39 year career protecting the Texas coast. Initially stationed at Port Isabel, Texas, she was used for law enforcement and search and rescue operations. In late 1966, her homeport was shifted to Port Aransas, Texas and in 1991, she changed homeports to Sabine Pass, Texas.
During her Coast Guard career, USCGC Point Baker and her crews earned three Coast Guard Unit Commendations and two Meritorious Unit Commendations.
