Context

The receipt is dated April 1, 1879, the year before Wenzel Friedrich expanded his cabinetmaking business to include the manufacture of horn furniture, for which he became famous. William Menger contracted Friedrich to do carpenter-type work at the Menger Hotel, which was established in 1859.
