The Georgia State Fair tradition began in 1846 by the Southern Central Agricultural Society. The purpose of the fair was to create an event that would promote Georgia Farmers and agriculture interests throughout Georgia and into the adjacent states, with this in mind, the first Georgia State Fair was held at Stone Mountain. Due to the large response to the fair it was moved to Atlanta in 1850. After seeking a more centralized location, they settled at the fairgrounds in Macon a year later.
