Between 1900 and 1915 the cottonseed industry in Texas continued its strong expansion, boosted by improved technology and the invention of new products. In 1915, its peak year, Texas had 233 of the 882 oil mills in the country. The Central Texas Cotton Oil Company was one of those companies. Four years after this cover, the recipient, Leonidas Lafayette Shields would establish the town of Shield, twelve miles southwest of Santa Anna in south central Coleman County.Category
