Circa 1860 carte de visite with "LE CHAMP D'ASILE" at the top, a picture of an elderly man in a Napoleanic uniform, and "L'invalide (95 ano)" written in hand at the bottom. On verso (in French): "Le Champ d'Asile est conscre; Elevez-vons, cite nouvelle! Soyez-nous un port assure Contre la forune infidele. Peut-etre aussi des plus hauts faits Nos fils vous racontant l'historie, Vous diront : Nous sommes Francais; Prenez pitie de notre gloire." Translated to English: The Field of Asylum is consecrated; Let us rise, new city! Be a safe haven for us Against unfaithful fortune. Perhaps also for the greatest deeds Our sons, telling you the story, Will tell you: We are French; Take pity on our glory.Context
