In 1861, British sea captain Charles Clarke arrives on Galveston Island and developed a business operating tugs, fighters, and salvage vessels. The firm constructed jetty's, dredged channels and harbors along the Texas Coast, and salvaged many of the ships wrecked during the 1900 storm. His house, the Clarke-Jockusch Home, became a showcase for entertainment and a recorded Texas Historic Landmark.Category
