In 1890, Clarke & Courts completed its "Texas House, a Nicholas J. Clayton designed office, plant, and warehouse on the Strand in Galveston. Ten years later, the Galveston Hurricane of 1900 (September 8), which damaged the company's building and killed its head bookkeeper.
