Context

Major Frazier was a highly esteemed citizen of Houston, having frequently served in the public capacities faithfully and honestly. He was at one time Sheriff of Harris county, and during the war was assigned to duty by the Confederate authorities as Provost Marshal. In all his public and private relations, he sustained a high character for humaneness and strict integrity. (Galveston Daily News, Thursday, August 12, 1869, p1 c1.)
