The book is profusely inscribed with thirty inscriptions from friends, classmates, cousins from nearby colleges, etc. The dedication is by Wren's classmate, Atticus Greene Haygood, who served as president of Emory from 1876 to 1884 and Haygood Hall, a dormitory at Oxford College, is named for him.

The Emory University Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library holds a collection of three original diaries of Emory alumnus George Lovick Pierce Wren, a typed copy of the first diary, and a reproduction of a photograph of Wren in uniform (1863).
The first diary (1858-1859) provides a narrative of student and academic life during Wren's junior and senior years at Emory College.
The second diary (1861-1862) describes his initial army service; comments on serious fighting at Sharpsburg, Maryland, and in Virginia; and covers the time period of his first imprisonment.
The third diary (1863-1864) mentions action in Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina; refers to hardships and religious revivals among the soldiers; and describes his injury, hospitalization, capture, and conditions in prison. This diary contains personal accounts and lists of company funds loaned as well as the words to a song "The Banks of the Potomac". It also contains the signatures and regiments of soldiers, possibly men imprisoned with him 1864 to 1865. Entries are infrequent and lengthy, with some observations based on information received while he was in prison.
