Oval shoulder plate engraved "BG°". Dug by John Williams at Port Copano in 1983. Only eleven are known, with two found at the San Jacinto Battlefield.
Context
On March 16, 1836, the Guerrero Battalion was deployed as part of General José de Urrea’s coastal offensive to clear out Texian supply lines and coastal defenses. Urrea’s forces (which included the Guerrero Battalion) successfully took the undefended Port of Copano shortly after the Battle of Coleto, effectively cutting off crucial Texian reinforcements.
