Context

Comfort’s downtown area is one of the most well-preserved historic business districts in Texas. The well over 100 structures in the area date back to the 19th century, and seven of them were designed by noted architect Alfred Giles. Mr. Giles lived in San Antonio and would ride horses, the stagecoach, and later the train to check his building sites in Comfort. In 1880, Peter Ingenhuett and Marie Karger commissioned Alfred Giles to build Comfort's first hotel, and named it the Ingenhuett Hotel - the address of this cover. The sender, Dr Frank Gault Kerr, was a prominent physician and owner of F. G. Kerr’s Drug Store on Main Street, Van Buren, Arkansas. The recipient his wife, Lucy Ann Kerr.
