Name/Title
Revolutionary War Spanish Officer Rodela Button Pensacola FloridaDescription
Original in superb condition; named to reflect its resemblance to the Rodela (a rodela is a round shield or buckler). This well-made type is believed to be a Spanish officer's button form of the early-to-mid-1700s. The shank was formed by bending a sturdy rectangular and integrally cast upright and straight brass element into a loop after the button was cast, resulting in an eye connected at only one point to the button's back. Dates approximately to between 1700 and 1790. Recovered near Pensacola, Florida by a former colleague. It is little known, but the Spanish were involved in the Revolutionary War. Size is: 18.90mm
