San Pedro Creek rises in springs in north central San Antonio in central Bexar County and flows southeast for two miles through an artificial channel to its confluence with the San Antonio River Creek. The springs, in present San Pedro Park, were named by members of the Ramón Expedition, who reached the site on May 14, 1716. The location of the springs determined the site of the villa of San Fernando de Béxar and the mission of San Antonio de Valero. The stream traverses rolling terrain surfaced by calcareous clay soil that supports mesquite, liveoak, cacti, and grasses.Category
