Description

Button dates to the mid-to-late 1700s. The button is hand cast, has a deeply concave reverse, is made of bronze alloy, and has an integral shank with drilled eyelet.

Context

These buttons are known to have been used by Spanish Colonial Artillery units and are known as the Presidio type. They have been recovered from sites such as St. Augustine and Pensacola. This button was recovered from the latter (Pensacola).
