Early German Texas settler Jäger percussion rifle converted from flintlock, .68 caliber, 31.25" octagonal rifled barrel with foliate engraving near the muzzle over the brass and wood ramrod, fixed front sight, adjustable rear sight, engraved behind the rear sight "1822, Joseph Doleczek Bleistad," a brass plate behind the barrel tang engraved "Joseph Erlbeck," unmarked lock, double set triggers, strong action, brass trigger guard, the hardwood stock with brass accents and raised foliate carving, lacking patch box.Context
This rifle is exceptionally similar to the Jäger Percussion Rifle featured on pages 192 and 193 in Early Texas Furniture and Decorative Arts by Cecilia Steinfeldt. As an 1820s rifle and purchased in Austin, Texas, tentatively attributed to the Troop of Twenty.Category
