A shako plate with a five-pointed star above a straight fouled anchor. Above the anchor is "TEXAS" and below the anchor is "MARINE CORPS." Cross hatched along the border to resemble rope. Die-struck and made of coin silver.
Context
This shako plate was made to be worn by a Texas Marine Corps officer, and believed to have been manufactured of melted silver coins and/or scrap silver pieces in the Algiers Shipyard, New Orleans, Louisiana.
