Name/Title
c.1892 Thomson Houston Adaptable Base LampDescription
One of two known examples of a lamp patented in 1892 with the intent to offer interchangeable bases that adapted the lamp to work for Edison, Westinghouse, T-H, etc bases. Other example is at the General Electric museum in Nela Park, Cleveland OH. There is no evidence that this product as put into production, likely a small run prototype. Note: The scalloped edge panel on the lamp, stem press, spherical carbon paste filament attachments are all indicative of early 1890's Thomson Houston Manufacturing. The patent for which this lamp matches is issued to Thomson Houston. The William J Hammer collection inventory does list a matching design and identified this as an Edison lamp. At the point of manufacture Edison and TH were merged entities under the GE name.Made/Created
