Edison incandescent lamp with the second form of screw base, often referred to as the Johnson Bevel Ring Base, acknowledging Edward Johnson’s contribution to its design. The bevel ring base appears in early 1881 but was abandoned by approximately November of that year due to recurring failures. When installed in a socket, mechanical stresses concentrated beneath the beveled ring frequently caused the plaster insulation to crack, leading to reliability issues and the base’s rapid obsolescence.Made/Created
