Edison incandescent lamp from the collection of Martin F. Force. Forced work as an Edison assistant beginning at Menlo Park in 1877. Surviving lab notes show Force’s involvement in incandescent lamp development into the latter part of the 1880’s. This examples has a base with an otherwise unseen of the era extended base with a thread length that is typical of the Edison lamps until the middle of the 1880’s. The base is nickel plated, a proactive typically only seen on larger lamps with a “skirted” base. Plaster in bottom of base unmarked with voltage, which is atypical. Lamp envelope darkening atypical shade of grey suggesting that this was possibly a filament coating test.Made/Created
