Description

Edison lamp of the third form of Edison screw base. The plaster collar was a vestige to the previous screw base design, and served little purpose other than to hold the lamp when threading the lamp into a socket. Early and seldome seen label varient present. 8 Candlepower size lamp. This form of base was produced from about November 1881 to some point in 1883. The reddish color of the copper-plated filament clamps is possibly caused by oxidation through a vacuum leak, which a sudden leak could also have caused the filament to break in many pieces.
