Edison incandescent lamp of the period of about 1883-1884. Carbonized bamboo filament attached with the copper plating method, as developed by Edison in 1881. 50 candlepower size lamp. This example has been copper plated internally from a poor connection at one of the copper plated clamps, causing the clamp to arc and vaporize the copper, coating the inside of the glass envelope. Filament intact despite clamp failure.Made/Created
