Description

See file for complete Sotheby's description. Published in advance of Passover 1948. Text is largely traditional for Passover, though includes readings from modern Hebrew authors like David Frischmann and Hayyim Nahman Bialik. Illustrations by Arieh Allweil were meant to evoke the Zionist ethos of the period leading up to the War of Independence. Military-themed scenes; instructions to make four toasts to the Hebrew state, the Haganah, immigration to Israel, and the reader's military unitl, suggest its primary audience was members of the Haganah--indeed, inscription in this copy mentions the 1948 Seder held by battalion 332 of the Alexandroni Brgade, which would go on to participate in a difficult battle for control of Latrun in late May 1948.
