Hand-wrought, cut, and engraved. Glass burner is original to piece. Hebrew: "In memory of Rav Samuel Halevy 1884" File includes letter with description. From similar piece in Christie's June 1984 catalog: "In North Africa, particularly in Morocco, a memorial oil lamp for a man was called a 'Kas' and consisted of a glass bowl hung from chains. Memorial lights also served as Sabbath lights. These lamps were hung in the home and were lit principally on Sabbath and festival eves. At the end of a year of mourning for the deceased they were handed over to the synagogue. This lamp style was issued as a 30 lira Israeli stamp in 1980."
