Description

Artist statement: "In this, my original tambourine, I transform the infamous chair thrown by hostile men at Women of the Wall into a seat of honor for a mythic Miriam, symbol of spiritual power for modern Jewish feminists." From Pomegranate Collection: "This tambourine is a full-color laminated reproduction of Teutsch's original design on a high-quality remo tambourine. Aside from being striking art objects to display, the tambourines have been joyously taken up to celebrate Rosh Hodesh, Passover Seders, Baby Namings, Coming-of-Age Ceremonies, and celebrations of older women's wsidom. Betty's first design, this tambourine shows a mythic Miriam joining the women reading Torah at the wall. Titled 'Thanks for the Chair,' it alludes to the harsh treatment these brave, pioneering women have received."
