"Mallory Serebrin has been living and working as an artist in Jerusalem since 1993. She is a graduate of Pratt Institute, New York, with a degree in Fine Arts and Painting. Her passion and expertise lie in 3-dimensional design, painting, form and function, and are best expressed in clay. She founded and established ArtWorks - The Jerusalem Ceramic Art Center where she teaches and exhibits her work. Her imprint can be seen in her own unique creations as well as in the students she inspires.
Mallory's own work includes Judaica, tableware and dedication plaques, and is for sale in her studio gallery and by special order. Her work can be seen throughout Israel and the United States in such places as the Jewish Museum in New York and other fine Judaica galleries in Atlanta, Baltimore, Seattle, Berkeley, Palo Alto, and Los Angeles.
A new Seder ritual is being adopted by many to honor the role of Miriam, Moses' sister, and to highlight the contributions of women to Jewish culture, both past and present. A Midrash teaches us that a miraculous well accompanies the Israelites throughout their long journey in the desert, providing them with water. This well was given by G-d to Miriam, the prophetess, to honor her bravery and devotion to the Jewish people. Both Miriam and her well were spiritual oases in the desert, sources of sustenance and healing. Her words of comfort gave the Israelites the faith and confidence to overcome the hardships of the Exodus.
We fill Miriam's cup with water to honor her role in ensuring the survival of the Jewish people. Like Miriam, Jewish women in all generations have been essential for the continuity of our people. As keepers of the traditions in the home, women passed down songs and stories, rituals and recipes, from mother to daughter, from generation to generation. Let us each fill the cup of Miriam with water from our own glasses, so that our daughters may continue to draw from the strength and wisdom of our heritage."Made/Created
