Seder Tikkunei Shtarot – Formulary of Legal Deeds, according to the work Nachalat Shiv‘ah, with German translation. Hamburg, [5533] 1773. Hebrew and German on facing pages. Title page: Sammlung von gerichtlichen jüdischen Contracten, rabbinisch und deutsch. Dem Druck übergeben von J. G. C. Adler… mit einer Vorrede Herrn Oluf Gerhard Tychsen… With an introduction by Oluf Gerhard Tychsen (1734–1815), the Prussian Hebraist, lecturer, numismatist, paleographer, translator, and theologian; a member of the Royal Prussian Academy of Sciences. Tychsen was well versed in rabbinic literature and is reputedly the only non-Jew in history who, by his own account, held a certificate of ordination to the title “Chaver” (see: Shmuel Feiner, A New Era: Jews in Europe in the Eighteenth Century, 1750–1800, p. 160). With [8] pages at the end of the book titled “Supplement, ” including the text of a get (bill of divorce), a deed authorizing an agent of the husband, and a deed of refusal (mi’un). Includes a pictorial plate with illustrations of the ḥalitzah shoe. The book is rarely found complete. Collation: [7], 176, [8] pages, plus [1] illustrated plate. 16.5 cm.
