Men Sandbagging the River in Idaho FallsDescription
This artifact is a black and white photo of men sandbagging the river in Idaho Falls. The men actually ran out of sandbags. However, Idahoans are resourceful and they went to there potato cellars to retrieve their potato sacks. They filled their potato sacks full of sand and went about finishing their dike. This photo is on display in the flood room in the museum. This photo is in a black frame with a white border around it. This photo is 25.5 x 31 inches big.
This photo was part of the museum's social media Remember Me campaign where pictures of unidentified people are placed on social media platforms to see if they can be identified. The following information was received:
Two of the young men are John Freud (in the water just past the man with the back to the camera) and Curtis Rudd wearing the Skyline football jersey. The man in the cowboy hat is Monte Piquet. The location is on the West Bank. The old LDS hospital is across the river in the background. It was taken Sunday June 6th in the afternoon.
