Teton Dam Scrapbook Ard's Paint & GlassDescription
Ard's Paint & Glass. The information card reads: When the Teton Flood hit Ard's Paint and Glass, it took out all the front windows and front doors on both sides of the building. It piled all the furniture and fixtures in one corner of the back, and clear up to the ceiling. What a mess.
Ard's and their family and volunteers worked from the front and back hauling out guck. They had to hurry and get things off the floor before the floor caved in under the weight. The floor had to be jacked up to keep it from collapsing. People of the Valley were in such dire need of glass and paint and redecorating supplies that there still hasn't been much time for Ard's to remodel or even get their claim in. They have spent the time serving the people.
The clean-up had to be done, the front windows and doors replaced, new tools purchased hurriedly and fixtures cleaned or replaced so they could be back in business of serving.
Both sides of the building were Ard's, they were renting to Capital Finance. The finance company just left and Ard's had the opportunity of going in and cleaning up the other part of the building also. They moved into this part of the building, as the floor was so weak on the other side.
They may still have to tear the building down and remodel the inside. You can bet the Rexburg Civic Improvement Club will be right in there with ideas and help in their remodeling.
