Description

El-Gene's note reads: A visitor stopped into our business on June 4, 1976 remarked that Rexburg was one of the most beautiful little towns that he had ever seen. Each street was lined with trees and lovely flowers. (The Civic Club had just finished planting the flowers on Main Street where our proud American flag billowed in the breeze, all the trees had just been groomed by the Club also.) (the parenthesis incorporated by Mrs. Hinkley) Less than one day later, June 5th the Teton Dam collapsed and a wall of mud and water battered each of our business and destroyed most of our town. We had just finished two years of remodeling our business El-Gene T.V. and Appliance, the preceding week. The logs that the flood picked up acted as a battering ram and knocked out most of the side and front of our building. T.V.s appliances, and everything that had been inside, was either washed away or piled up in a mangled heap. Hundreds of man hours were spent in trying to restore our business and buildings. We have had a problem getting needed materials so we still have some work to finish.
