Teton Dam Scrapbook Farmer's Equipment

Description

Farmer's Equipment note reads: Since the year the Rexburg for Beauty contest, the members have been contacting merchants, as well as home owners to be beautiful. Farmers Equipment, Inc. who handle John Deere Equipment was no exception. Erna Sellers who is a member of the Rexburg Civic Improvement Club, kept telling La Var Grover, who is the manager of the equipment company, that it would be pretty to kinda landscape the front and sides of the building. At first, like most men, he was hesitant saying, "Flowers in the front of an implement company?" However, little green shrubs were planted along the front of the building with red petunias interspaced between the green shrubs and a border of small yellow marigolds really created favorable comments from the customers. A green lawn also looked nice on the corner lot. June 5, 1976 brought the flood, and shirled the big 8430 John Deere tractors across the road. All contents from the inside of the building made their way over the little marigolds...with two having the courage to show their heads through a shallow hill of mud. After 3700 hours of clean-up work, glass from broken windows and bricks, smashed walls, and contents that were on the outside instead of the inside had to be sorted and cleaned and mostly moved away. Shrubs were replanted, but a different color scheme will be used for flowers. One that will bring better-than-ever comments, and surely, hopefully better luck at staying beautiful.
