Teton Dam Scrapbook Porters Book & VarietyDescription
Porters book & variety. There's a newspaper on the reverse side of the page. On the front is a letter on the page instead of a report which reads:
In the late afternoon of June 5, 1978, we ascertained that about 5 1/2 feet of water had gone through Porter's Book & Variety Store with such a force as to rip fixtures and merchandise out through the front and carry a cow into the back of the store through the glass door. On June 6, posts holding the main floor gave way and the floors collapsed.
After the salvage crews left three feet of mud from the basement was scooped out by means of a tractor and scoop, and wheel barrows by hand. The total time of cleanup was six weeks. From July until December the contractor built, and we were open for business with a larger, more attractive building than we had before.
