Description

There are 2 notes on this page -- a small one on the front & the report on the back. The 1st note reads: Walkers were unable to find pictures of their business after the flood, they wanted to clean the mess up, and get out of it and forget, like many people of the area. We are using a word picture for their before description. It is found in the packet at the back of the scrapbook. The 2nd note reads: Targhee Sports Center is located only about one block from the Teton River. The flood washed at the foundation and around the outside of the building until it wore giant holes all around the building, it was almost impossible to get into the building, at all the water level in the building was about seven feet, therefore there was nothing left inside, we seemed to be in the running channel of the river. There was so much force and power behind the force of the water that it took out its anger on everything it touched. It took us about 6 months of building and worry to get back into the building, first we had to haul tons and tons of fill dirt before we could even get in to begin cleaning, it had to be completely gutted, and that took hours, then we began to rebuild, taking time off to also rebuild a home and a home had to be built for Mr. Walker's parents. The building behind had to be rebuilt also, we had a nice metal building out there to do our repair, and it had been washed completely away. The drive way in front of the building was asphalt and it had been washed in big chunks across the highway and on the other side, almost in one big piece. New windows, doors, frames, front wall, you name it and be assured it had to be replaced. There was nothing left at all. The shrubs that had been around the building were gone, everything was a complete zero. Builders were hard to find, so family became carpenter, painters, electricians, plasterers, you name it and were in that business during our rebuilding, we did have one close friend who was a plasterer, he helped us all he could during those torturous hours and days of recovery. We hope we are finished with remodeling for some time to come.
