Nickel Plate Road recently presented Engine No. 170 to the Museum of Transport at St. Louis. The Hudson-type steam locomotive, with 4-6-4 wheel arrangement originally was used in passenger service and during World War II powered countless troop trains. Since the Nickel Plate dieselized its regular passenger service in 1947, the engine has been used in extra passenger and light freight service. Altogether the engine has traveled about 2,000,000 miles, equal to 80 trips around the world.Language
