WOOD PIPES FOR MUSEUM
Sections of log water pipes once part of Philadelphias first municipal water system being turned over to Edward G. Doody (right) for the Museum of Transport in St. Louis County yesterday by Water Commissioner Thomas J. Skinker. They hold a cast iron coupling. To make pipes from the logs in 1815, the trunks were held with iron clamps and gored from each end with water power. Inside diameter was eight to 10 inches. White cedar is thought to have been used.Language
